Parent Involvement in Legislative Efforts is Extremely Effective!
Look at Our Recent Successes
July, 2004 :
The budget passed by the California Legislature and signed by the governor provides $110 million for K-12 revenue limit equalization for 2004-05. This will result in about $748,000 more to the San Ramon Valley Unified School District. Parents in our district, along with others from around the state, participated in a relentless letter writing and phone calling campaign last spring to keep this piece of legislation alive.
April, 2004:
The Excellence in Education Act - Measure A Parcel Tax passed with 72% voter approval. As a result, SRVUSD is able to maintain class-size reduction in grades K-3 and 9th grade English and math, keep middle and high school counselors, keep school libraries open, and keep elementary instrumental music programs.
November, 2002:
Voters approved Measure A - the $260 million school facilities bond. The bond funds the next phase of the district's facilities improvement plan allowing the district to completely renovate and expand many aging and substandard school facilities like California High School and Pine Valley Middle School, as well as seven aging elementary schools throughout the district in need of major renovation. Other projects include replacement of old portable classrooms with permanent classrooms at Monte Vista High School, replacement of portable classrooms with permanent facilities and the construction of multipurpose room facilities at elementary schools, computer labs and upgrades to allow for use of current technology at various schools, a library/media center and gymnasium at Diablo Vista Middle School, a student cafeteria/commons building at San Ramon Valley High School, and a new facility for Venture Independent Study School which is currently housed in a district warehouse.
